Windels Marx is pleased to announce that Caryn Young has joined the firm as Partner, and Donald R. Young has joined as Counsel. Caryn and Don practiced alongside Gary Moriwaki and Reiko Takikawa, who joined the firm in May. Like Gary and Reiko, they have active practices that focus on trusts and estates and related matters.
Caryn focuses on estate and gift tax planning, and estate and trust administration. She helps domestic and international families navigate complicated U.S. and New York State tax rules and delicate family situations, crafting plans to preserve, protect and grow family wealth for multiple generations in a tax efficient manner. Ms. Young has extensive experience drafting wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, generation-skipping dynasty trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, sales to intentionally "defective" grantor trusts, qualified personal residence trusts and other estate planning documents.
She also has extensive experience with the administration of complicated estates, including preparation of estate and gift tax returns, representing clients in tax audits with the IRS and dealings with the IRS art advisory panel. In addition, Ms. Young advises clients on business succession matters, and prepares shareholder agreements, LLC operating agreements and related documentation.
She received her J.D. from New York University School of Law, an M.I.A. (Masters in International Affairs) from Columbia University, and an A.B. cum laude from Harvard University.
Don has a distinguished career spanning more than thirty years in estate planning and administration, probate, and business succession planning.
He was a founder and partner at Young Moriwaki & Greenfader prior to its merger into Fox Rothschild. He was also a founder and partner at Todtman, Young, Tunick, Nachamie & Spizz, LLP, and for more than twenty years managed the Trusts & Estates department of that firm.
Don was formerly with the IRS Gift and Estate Tax Division, where he audited multi-million dollar estates and gifts. He was also the head of the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company's regional Design Office, working with high-level insurance professionals on sophisticated estate and tax planning matters.
Don received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Clark University.
